Philosophy

The aim of Christ the Teacher Interparochial School is to have its students experience a Christian education to prepare and develop their lives in the Roman Catholic tradition.

As a school serving a variety of cultures and students of many faiths, the faculty and administration recognizes these differences. We communicate traditional Christian values and provide students with multi-cultural experiences and curriculum and attitudes that accept each person as a unique individual. We develop this idea through Christ’s teachings that “we are all God’s children”. We encourage active participation in the church and community services, not only by the student, but by his or her entire family; in so doing, each child will strengthen their love of God, of self and others.

The curriculum adheres to the guidelines set down by the Archdiocese of Newark. The policies, whether administrative, educational or management, are prepared and formalized by the Principal with the input of all three Interparochial pastors. Changes in policies come directly from the Principal. Policies are implemented by the staff and faculty.

Grades Pre K through 5 are self contained, while grades 6 through 8 are departmental, covering all subject areas with updated materials.

The daily schedules for grades kindergarten through 5 are made by each teacher, using the time allotments recommended by the Archdiocesan School Office. Grades 6, 7, and 8 are departmental and have schedules generated by the Principal and teachers, using the curriculum guidelines as well.

Christ the Teacher Interparochial School provides traditional subject area teaching for grades kindergarten through 8. Students with weaknesses are assisted by remedial instruction and we provide individual enrichment for advanced students. The teachers are flexible and prepared to handle individual ability levels of all students.

Periodic evaluations of academic growth are a standard practice. Students are presented with several forms of evaluations. By providing a variety of styles of evaluation, such as oral, written, teacher observation, social interaction and annual standardized tests, every manner of growth may be noted. Students in grades 6 through 8 are also responsible for taking mid-term and final exams in each major subject area.

Communication between teacher, student and parent is an ongoing process which includes test folder distribution each week, warning notices given out midway through the marking period and quarterly report cards which show the students progress at their designated grade level. Conferences may be scheduled to discuss student progress throughout the year.

At Christ the Teacher we offer comprehensive academic and religious preparation. We recognize and provide for the various needs and abilities of our students. Traditional content area teaching allows each student the opportunity to actively participate in their educational process. Through cooperative learning, up-to-date materials and techniques, students develop into well-rounded individuals.
